Robert Adams. Aperture, (112p) ISBN: 9780893813680. Photography, read 08/08/25, Paperback ★★★★☆
I was reading a magazine article about Minor White and this book was mentioned and I’m terrible right now for just getting art and photography books whenever I hear about them and this was no different.
A wonderful collection of essays by Robert Adams looking into various aspects of photography, including the subject of the title, Beauty.
Talking about nature and landscape, he always returns to the core of what he believes brings beauty to photography, Form and Truth.
At the back he writes about three photographers under the title “Reconciliations with Geography” and explores their relationship with the landscapes they take and explains how they were all successful in their different approaches.
Robert Adams writing is clear and approachable with little to no jargon which makes it a pleasure to read and engage with.
I really enjoyed these short essays and will be rereading them to get more out of them as I think I probably took them too quickly and that they need a deeper engagement.
